"Click-It or Ticket"

Don't be an April Fool!

The DeKalb County Police Department STAR Team conducted on April 1, 1997 two "Click-It or Ticket" roadside safety checks in DeKalb County. This was planned and coordinated by STAR Team Sergeant John Gardner and was under his supervision. Along with the STAR Team of DeKalb Police, the Tactical Enforcement Unit (TAC), Community Oriented Policing (COPS) unit, and the City of Clarkston Police all worked together for enforcement purposes. Safe Kids of DeKalb, headed by Carol Ball, helped parents in showing them the correct way of car seat installations. The DeKalb Emergency Medical Service (EMS) also assisted in the car safety seat checks and administration of this event

Our goals today were to educate and enforce the occupant protection laws in Georgia. Specifically, we were looking for unrestrained children and front-seat occupants. In Georgia, seat belts and child restraints are primary laws which means an officer does not need any other offense to make a case. Click here for further information on occupant protection. We are genuinely concerned with the safety of the persons in our community and believe these restraints, when used properly can make a difference.

The first safety check in the morning on Covington Hwy, just inside I-285. The second was after lunch in the city of Clarkston on E. Ponce de Leon Ave. During the course of the events, the following cases were made:

Child Restraint Seat Belts DUI Other Suspended License Felony Arrests Misdemeaner Arrests Stolen cars recovered
